Kapama has devised a number of Experiential Bush
Teambuilding initiatives to challenge teams in unfamiliar terrain
with all the hidden secrets, dangers and pleasures.
Experiential Adventure Programming is aimed at understanding concepts,
enriching the knowledge of old concepts, or generating awareness
of previously unknown needs through adventure. We characterise participants
in these programs as people focused on learning through adventure.
The bush and it's inhabitants demonstrate a number of synergies
with normal human existence where communication, teamwork, trust,
interdependence, decision making, conflict resolution, competition
and survival are the key strategies for success.
It is with this view in mind that the following programs have
been devised. Most of the programs can be conducted in isolation
although numerous tailor-made combinations are possible. The prescribed
bush activities can be conducted in any bush environment as the
concepts are totally mobile in nature. Our instructors are highly
qualified, survivors in their own right, educators and teachers
who love sharing and teaching what they know.
Herewith are the profiles of the various programs which can be
1 day or 2/3 days depending on available time parameters.
THE BUSHCRAFT AND SURVIVAL EXPERIENCE
The Bushcraft and Survival program has been designed to create
an awareness amongst team participants of the strategies which need
to be employed using basic bushcraft as a means to survive. Concepts
you will be exposed to during this one day event or two to three
day event will comprise the basics of survival adaptability, basic
navigation skills, basic weapon and trapping improvisation techniques,
what to eat and not to eat - palatability testing, reading and understanding
the bush, behaviours associated with dangerous animals, and bush
culinary skills including fire making.
BUSH SURVIVORS
Survival is simply knowing what to do in order to stay alive in
a sudden crisis in the bush. The bush is cruel and lacks understanding
for the weak, frail and old. It has it's own means of maintaining
equilibrium where only the strong survive. This overnight program
emphasises aspects such as food and water assimilation, shelter
construction, direction finding and survival strategy where team
members are responsible for each other's safety. Dangerous animals
lurk and a night watch strategy is needed for the night. Limits
are tested as are humours where team deliberations are the success
formulas. Bush culinary skills are tested to the fullest as are
the elements such as cold, dehydration and insects. Take up the
survival challenge and break from the norm - exercise your spirit
of adventure.
THE BUSH EXPLORERS PROGRAM
This program is designed for those who would like a deeper insight
into the concept of resource utilisation on a sustainable basis.
We invite you to join us in this experiential and participative
experience where we explore many of the hidden intricacies and secrets
of the African bush. Whether it be a day program or a two to three
day program, participants will be exposed to bush cuisine a-la naturale',
bush medicine; bush cosmetics, bush detergents, potpourri's, bush
communication, bush disinfectants, insect repellents and insecticides,
bush dangers and signs, to name but a few facets of this exciting
and innovative program.
THE ART OF TRACKING
This program is designed for those who would like a deeper insight
into an Art that is losing it's traditional essence. Whether it
be a full day or two to three days, the program would include aspects
such as The Art of Tracking, Spoor Identification, Spoor and animal
behavioural anticipation, attributes of a successful tracker and
how this relates to each of us, reading the bush signs, listening
to warning signs, anticipating animal movement patterns, behavioural
knowledge associated with dangerous animals and the psychology of
tracking.
THE CULTURAL RESOURCE INTERPRETATION PROGRAM
This program is designed for those who would like a deeper insight
into different cultures and cultural resource values specific to
Southern Africa. We invite you to join us in exploring the myths
and legends, the traditions and cultures, and the methods employed
in the utilisation of Africa?s natural resources on a sustainable
basis. Whether it be a one day session or a two to three day session
one can expect to be exposed to contents such as cultural resource
interpretation and utilisation of both fauna and flora, cultural
bushcraft and survival, traditional African folklore, traditional
culinary delights and the simple art of story telling.
BUSH ORIENTEERING - LOST OR FOUND
This program is conducted on both foot and in vehicle whereby
participants are taught various methods of direction finding. The
methods employed are using natural elements with 'eons' of use as
well as the more sound technological methods using modern 6techniques
and equipment such as compasses and GPS systems. Participants are
challenged all the way along routes clearly demarcated on paper
complimented by ground locations where punches are required to be
used.
NIGHT ORIENTEERING AND THE NIGHT SKIES
This program is similar to the Bush orienteering program highlighted
above with the main difference being that this program is conducted
under the covers of darkness with alternative direction finding
techniques being employed. Aligned with this is comprehensive 'southern'
skies interpretation where astrological symbols and astronomical
features are highlighted. This program is best conducted with a
night out literally ' under the stars' . During the early evening
a bush meal ala traditional will be prepared and presented by the
facilitation team.
BIRD AND FROG IDENTIFICATIONS
During this fun filled experiential learning experience we will
expose participants to the wonders of avian flight and identification
by day and the 'cacophony' of frogs by night. We will teach participants
key identification features as well as behavioural aspects associated
with different families and the specific 'niches' they fulfil.
BUSH LEARNING WORKSHOPS
Bush Explorers Africa also presents specialised workshops where
lessons from the bush can be applied in the corporate environment.
These workshops are a blend of visual, theoretical and practical
applications. Typical workshops include:
Ethno botany and the Role it plays in Interpretation, Communication
in Herding Animals, Group Strategies for Survival, Dominance Hierarchies
and Leadership, Matriarchal Structures and their Success
