MAKALALI
MAKES A MARK WITH ITS " CUISINE OF AFRICA"
Makalali
Private Game Reserve has been selected as one of the Top Ten Restaurants
in South Africa in the 1998 Penta-Minis Restaurant Guide.
The
food style at Makalali is culinary adventure, combining regional
cuisine from all over Africa with the multitude of cooking styles
left behind by centuries of exploration on this great continent.
At Makalali, we provide an array of dining experiences. Enjoy Africa
under the stars with dinner in the bush or the legendary "boma
dinner'. Other options include the indoor-outdoors dining area where
you can enjoy plated dinner or the more casual family style dining
with other guests

Edited by cooking
guru Lannice Snyman, the annual guide has come to represent a selection
of South Africa's finest eating establishments. This guide has been
compiled by an editorial team of critics who travel the country
paying unannounced visits to scores of restaurants from which they
select.
Any restaurant
featured in the guide is eligible for the Top Ten – selected by
the editor on the basis of "magic food, mood, service, attitude
and dedication." Ms Snyman makes it her business to search below
the veneer of excellence to the elusive added dimension that sets
these places apart.
Situated
in Mpumalanga, Makalali opened in July 1996 and enjoys the cudos
of being the only game lodge selected in The Top Ten. The lodge
is already the winner of several awards including UK's Tatler Travel
Guide's " MostInnovative Hotel Design of 1997."
Makalali is
quickly becoming recognized for its specific brand of African cuisine,
put together by a dedicated team of 20 " Makalali Makers, Bakers
and Shakers," headed by chef Geoffrey Murray.
Geoffrey Murray
has taken cuisine at the reserve to new heights with innovative
ideas for bush breakfasts, leisurely lunches in the hand-crafted
outdoor "salas" overlooking the flowing Makhutswi River, and the
legendary boma and bush dinners, where guests can enjoy a variety
of exciting dishes, from Moroccan Lamb with Lemon Coriander to Grilled
Kingklip in Chermoula.
